Clindamycin is a member of the class of drugs known as antibiotics. It can only be obtained with a prescription from a physician. Certain types of acne are treated on the skin using topical clindamycin. It functions by reducing the number of acne lesions and/or preventing the skin germs that cause acne from growing.
