A female hormone called estrofem (oestradiol; sometimes spelled estradiol) is used to replenish oestrogen levels that have been reduced as a result of menopause. It can be applied to stop osteoporosis as well. Reduced oestrogen production can lead to menopausal symptoms such vaginal dryness or irritation and abrupt spikes in body temperature. The goal of taking these tablets is to treat and relieve uncomfortable menopausal symptoms by replacing the oestrogen that the body is no longer producing as a result of the menopause.
Human estrogen produced naturally is the same as estradiol. In addition, the tablets have titanium dioxide, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, lactose, hyprolose, maize starch, refined talc, and propylene glycol (red 1 mg tablets and blue 2 mg tablets).
