• Chromium is found in a wide variety of foods, but most sources only
contain small amounts due to soil depletion, particularly in Australia.
Food sources rich in chromium include organ meats, cheese, broccoli,
green beans, spices and wine.
• The absorption of chromium from the intestinal tract is low and can
be enhanced by the intake of nutrients such as vitamin C and niacin.
Chromium is stored in the liver, spleen, soft tissue and bone.
• Diets high in simple sugars result in increased urinary chromium
excretion in adults. This effect may be related to increased insulin
secretion in response to the consumption of simple sugars compared
